Will my car be taxed when I get it?
No, we can’t tax the car for you—you’ll need to tax it in your name before driving it on the road.
How do I tax my car?
1️⃣ Visit the DVLA website - https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax
2️⃣ Answer “No” when asked if you have a tax reminder letter (V11)
3️⃣ Select “V5C/2 new keeper supplement (green slip)”
4️⃣ Enter your details: Vehicle registration number and 12‑digit V5 ref number (from the email “What happens now your order’s confirmed?”)
5️⃣ Choose how to pay and complete your payment
If your tax is free, you won’t need to make any payment but you will need to follow the above steps
📞 Prefer to call? You can use the DVLA’s automated service by calling 0300 123 4321
✔️ Electric cars are no longer exempt from paying road tax from 1 April 2025.
✔️ The 12‑digit V5 reference number is only valid until the day of delivery or collection (inclusive). After that, the DVLA will issue a new V5 in your name and the reference will change.
When will I receive the V5 logbook for my car?
The DVLA usually sends your V5 logbook within six weeks.
If it hasn’t arrived after that time, please contact the DVLA directly by calling 0300 790 6802 (Mon-Fri 8am-7pm, Sat 8am-2pm) or contact them here.
