How do GAP insurance payments work?
GAP insurance is paid by Direct Debit in 10 interest‑free monthly instalments.
Payments start within 30 days of taking out the policy.
One‑off payments aren’t available at the moment.
Can I transfer my GAP policy to another car?
No - GAP insurance can’t be transferred to a new vehicle.
If you buy another car from cinch, you may be eligible for a new policy depending on the terms and conditions.
Do I need car insurance as well?
✅ Yes! You must have comprehensive car insurance to buy GAP insurance.
GAP only works after your main insurer pays out for a total loss.
When does my policy start and how long does it last?
Your GAP policy starts the day you take it out, so you’re covered straight away.
Your cover lasts for 36 months.
What happens when my GAP policy ends?
Your cover ends on the expiry date shown in your policy schedule.
cinch doesn't currently offer GAP insurance renewals, so cover will end automatically when your policy expires.
What’s the cancellation policy on GAP insurance?
Within the 30‑day cooling‑off period
You’ll receive a full refund, as long as you haven’t made a successful claim.
After the cooling‑off period
You can still cancel anytime.
You’ll receive a pro‑rata refund for the remaining cover, minus an administration fee, in line with the terms and conditions.

Will my data be shared with AutoTrust?
Yes, if you buy a GAP policy, cinch will share your personal and vehicle details with AutoTrust so they can manage your cover.
